July 22, 1922 - March 5, 2011
SOUTH BEND - Phyllis Mary Wentland, 88, passed away at 9:36 a.m. on Saturday, March 5, 2011, in Memorial Hospital. Phyllis was born on July 22, 1922, in South Bend, to the late John and Anna (Kalka) Ciesialka. On January 1, 1944, Phyllis married Eugene Wentland, who passed away on May 25, 2008. Phyllis was also preceded in death by sisters, Clara Brzezinski and Adeline Walczewski; and by a brother, John Ciesialka Jr. Phyllis is survived by her daughter, Patricia A. (Thomas E.) Bolinger of South Bend; son, Larry S. Wentland of South Bend; grandchildren, Brian (Kathy) Bolinger, Brenda Hazinski, Branden Cantrell and Holly Cantrell; and great-grandchildren, Sarah Bolinger, Daniel Bolinger, Amanda Hazinski and Robert Chodzinski. Phyllis was employed by Studebaker, Ball Band, and the South Bend Tribune. She enjoyed jigsaw puzzles, Sudoku, cooking, and was famous for her Polish noodles. When dad was in his last days of life, easy-listening music was softly piped into his hospital room for comfort. Mom would stand at his bedside and say "C'mon, Gene, let's dance." Her favorite song was "Somewhere My Love" (Lara's Theme from Doctor Zhivago). Mom finally has her wish. Mom and Dad are now dancing in the presence of their Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, to His honor and glory (Psalm 149:3-5). Thank you, Jesus, for saving mom and dad in the last days of their lives. "For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith - and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God - not by works, so that no one can boast." (Ephesians 2:8). Mom lived a very simple and humble life and never sought to bring attention to herself. For this reason and to honor her wishes, there will be no visitation or services. Mom has been entombed to rest next to dad at the Resurrection Gardens Mausoleum in St. Joseph Cemetery. ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 824 S. Mayflower Road, is assisting the family. Condolences for the family may be made at www.sjfh.net. Until we join you in glory, we love you, Mom. We love you, Busia.
