Albert Van Laecke
Jan. 26, 1918 - March 25, 2011

SOUTH BEND - Albert Van Laecke, 93, passed away at 2:15 a.m. Friday, March 25, 2011, in the Fountainview Place Nursing Home. Albert was born on January 26, 1918, in South Bend, to Julius and Helen (Claeys) Van Laecke. He retired from South Bend Lathe after 25 years and then was employed by the Indiana Toll Road for 10 years. Al then returned to South Bend Lathe where he worked another five years. On June 28, 1941, in South Bend, Albert married the former Adeline Krych. Albert and Adeline would have celebrated 70 years of marriage this June. He was a member of the B.K. Club and was the treasurer of the Archers Club there. Al also was a member of St. Monica Catholic Church where he was an usher. He was a loving, kind gentleman who cared deeply for his family. Surviving are his wife, Adeline Van Laecke; a daughter, Janis (Nelson) Weaver of Granger; two sons, Gerald Lee (Margaret) Van Laecke of Granger and Albert Mitchell (Diane) Van Laecke of South Bend; five grandchildren, David (Kristen) Van Laecke, Amy (James Chisholm) Van Laecke, Wesley (Beth) Weaver, Brian Weaver and Chad (Jennifer) Van Laecke; six great-grandchildren, Matthew Weaver, Nicholas Weaver, Alexis Weaver, Taren Van Laecke, Brady Van Laecke and Avery Van Laecke. Mr. Van Laecke was preceded in death by his parents, along with a sister, Madilyn Scofield, and two brothers, Raymond Van Laecke and Julius Van Laecke. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 30, 2011 in St. Monica Catholic Church, Mishawaka. Family and friends may call from 4-8 Tuesday in the Zahoran Funeral Home, 1826 Kemble Avenue, and one hour prior to services Wednesday in the church. Memorial contributions may be made to the Center for Hospice Care or to Alzheimer's Services.
