MISHAWAKA - George Fobe remembers delivering bread and cakes with his uncle to Mishawaka homes before World War II. We would stop and people would come out and buy out of the truck, "Fobe said" . W e also had standing orders for a loaf of bread or something else. It was one of the strategies his parents, Adolf and Mary Fobe, used to keep the West End Bakery alive through the Depression. They and the bakery survived those tough times, and George, who is now semi-retired, was named the Mishawaka Businessman of the Year recently by the Mishawaka Business Association.
