SOUTH BEND - Roland G. Switalski, 80, of South Bend, died Tuesday afternoon at his home. He was born August 2, 1935, in South Bend, to the late Olive (Dawson) and Joseph Switalski, and was a lifetime area resident. Roland was also preceded in death by his brothers, Joseph, Robert, Donald and Edward. On July 26, 1958, he married Bonne J. Brees, who survives. They were married for 57 years. Roland is also survived by his children, Susan A. Snider of South Bend and Brian G. Switalski of Greenville, SC; four grandchildren, Ashley Hallahan (Justin), Shelbey E. Snider, Nichole M. Switalski and Lauren E. Switalski; and 2 great-grandchildren, Camerian J. and Christopher J. Hallahan; his sister-in-law, Joan McFarland; and many nieces and nephews. Roland was the owner of Myers and Wynn Television Store in South Bend for 25 years. Roland was a former member of Council Oak Lodge #745 F & AM and Scottish Rite Valley of South Bend. Roland and Bonnie enjoyed traveling, going to Four Winds Casino in New Buffalo, and gardening at his home. The Switalskis had a cottage on the Island at Diamond Lake and had a drive there which they called “R Avenue.” Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, June 4th, in the Welshemer Family Funeral Home North, 17033 Cleveland Rd., where friends may visit with the family on Saturday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the services.
