SOUTH BEND - Casimir T. “Spike” Nowicki, 93, of South Bend, IN, passed away at 4:00 a.m. Sunday December 6, 2015 at Hospice House in South Bend, IN. Casimir was born on November 28, 1922 to the late William and Lottie (Kaminski) Nowicki in South Bend, IN and has lived in South Bend most of his life, except for living in Edwardsburg, MI from 1972 - 2005. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Charles T. Nowicki; sisters, Lottie Kalicki and Hildegarde Nowicki; and brothers, Leo, Edmund, and Irvin Nowicki. Spike was employed with M.B. Skinner Company in South Bend; Spikes Tool Sharpening in Michigan; and was the former owner of Spikes Tavern (currently West Winds Bar) in South Bend. He then retired from Kmart Discount Department Store. Spike is survived by his two daughters, Susan Marie (Larry) Fuchs of Bremen, IN and Lillie C. (Terry) Goralski of South Bend, IN; a son, Irvin J. (Rose) Nowicki of South Bend, IN; four grandchildren, John Nowicki, Gary (Terri) Nowicki, Michael Nowicki and Mollie (Billy) Asherman; and several great-grandchildren. Casimir was a member of Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church in Edwardsburg, MI; American Legion Post #365 in Edwardsburg, MI; and American Legion Post #357 in South Bend, IN. He was a U.S. Army Air Corps Veteran of World War II, where he served from 1942-1946 and a U.S. Air Force Veteran of the Korean War, where he served from 1950-1951. Visitation will be from 2-6 p.m. Tuesday, December 8, 2015 at Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend, IN, where a Parish Rosary will be recited at 2:30 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 9, 2015 at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church, 24832 U.S. 12 East, Edwardsburg, MI 49112. Rev. Joseph McCormick, OSA will officiate. A Committal Service will follow at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph Cemetery, 24980 State Road 2, South Bend, IN, where Military Honors will be conducted.
