MISHAWAKA - Mishawaka - Genevieve V. Stachowicz, 91, passed away on Tuesday, November 21, 2017 in the Sanctuary of St. Paul's Nursing Facility. Genevieve was born February 4, 1926 in South Bend to the late Stanislaw and Martha (Marcinkowski) Blacharski. Genevieve married the late, Walter W. Stachowicz on Jan. 5, 1952 in St. Stanislaus Bishop & Martyr, he preceded her in death on Mar. 23, 2012. She was also preceded in death by a granddaughter, Abigail L. Stachowicz; and a sister, Elaine Demi-Walkowiak and brothers, Edward and Henry Blacharski. Survivors of Genevieve include her children, Edward (Catherine) Stachowicz of Lafayette, John T. Stachowicz of New York City, NY and Juliet M. Stachowicz of Sacramento, CA; grandchildren, Jonathan M. (Michelle) Stachowicz, Sara E. (Vincent) Maier, Emily M. (Mario Cascante) Stachowicz, Adam J. (Rachel) Stachowicz; 5 great- grandchildren, Elijah, Ethan, Isaac, Paul, and Sydney; nieces, Diane (Dennis) Glick, and Sharon (Christopher Pinkerton) Demi. Genevieve was a 1944 graduate from South Bend Catholic High School. She retired from Uniroyal in 1988 and she was a legal secretary at Standard Oil. She and her husband were co-owners of S & J Nursery. Genevieve was a parishioner of Queen of Peace Catholic Church. She was also a choir member of St. Stanislaus Roman Catholic Church for many years. Genevieve enjoyed gardening and especially fishing and baking with her grandchildren. She attended many Polish functions with her husband and they especially loved to go polka dancing. Visitation for Genevieve will be held from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm, Saturday, November 25, 2017 in ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 824 S. Mayflower Rd. with a Funeral Service to be held at 3:00 pm in the Funeral Home. Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, Memorial Contributions may be directed to Hospice Foundation, 501 Comfort Place, Mishawaka, IN, 46545.
