[N16068] Louise M. Zeisz Fletcher
March 30, 1928 ~ April 5, 2022 (age 94)

Louise M. Fletcher, 94, of South Bend, IN, passed away peacefully at her home on April 5, 2022. Louise was born in South Bend on March 30, 1928, to the late Albert and Louise Zeisz. She graduated from Michiana College of Commerce in South Bend, following completion of high school in 1946 from St. Joseph Academy. In 1952, Louise married Duane R. Fletcher, who preceded her in death in 2016. Louise and Duane were an incredible team who enjoyed life immensely. Louise was a remarkable mother and friend. Her every activity focused on providing the best upbringing and opportunities for her children. Louise was a Room Mother at Holy Cross Grade School and a devout participant of Daughters of Isabella charitable activities, both in South Bend. From taking in sewing for additional means during her children’s adolescent years to both Louise and husband Duane donating weekend time to work at St. Joseph High School in South Bend, where their children attended, Louise’s commitment to family was unwavering. Louise’s family often reminisced about the summer days enjoyed with her in the 1960s picking fruits and vegetables. Many hours would then be spent preparing them for canning at the kitchen table. Despite Louise’s small stature, she handled the enormous pressure cooker without hesitation. Much to Louise’s amusement, her children would all scatter as the cooker heated up. Lo and behold, its lid only blew once! Louise had an incredibly positive outlook and an enduring enthusiasm for life. Later in life, she enjoyed the challenges of playing online games on her desktop, and working on tabletop puzzles, having completed hundreds of them. The conversations with Louise, which exemplified her strength, kindness, and humor, will truly be missed. Louise is survived by her children, Anne Long, Peggy Wojtowicz, and Duane Fletcher; grandchildren, Jeff Wojtowicz and Mike Wojtowicz; beloved sister, Delores Hanna; and their spouses; and four great-grandchildren. Louise’s cherished sister-in-law, Sherry Zeisz, preceded her in death in 1999; as did her sister, Gertrude Rosselit, in 2017; and brother, Albert Zeisz, in 2021. The family would like to thank the Senior1Care and Traditions Health teams for the exceptional home care provided to Louise. A private Catholic service was held on April 7, 2022. Louise was interred next to her husband, Duane, at Highland Cemetery in South Bend. Palmer Funeral Home-Hickey Chapel assisted the family with arrangements. In honor of Louise’s life, donations may be made to Corvilla, Inc., 3620 Deahl Court, South Bend, IN 46628.
