Joseph Paul Gondocs, 72, passed away after a brief illness on December 11th surrounded by his loving family.
Left to treasure his memory is his loving wife of 53 years, Veronica Gondocs. Also left to cherish his memory are his brother, Steve Gondocs (Carol); sons, David, Robert (Judy) and Chris (Luann). Together, Joe and Veronica raised and enjoyed their family of three sons, seven grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and his faithful canine companion, Rusty. Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Vera and Joseph Gondocs, and by his beloved grandson, Damien. Joe was employed by the City of South Bend as the City Florist for 43 years. Joe took great pride and enjoyment in dedicating his life to caring for the Conservatories and planning beautiful gardens for the parks. He spent endless hours just enjoying his work at the Greenhouse. Joe was a dedicated and loving family man. He was at his happiest when he was surrounded by his family and friends. He loved gardening, fishing, canning, and especially enjoyed our frequent family gatherings. Joe enjoyed many wonderful friends in life and loved spending time with them. The family thanks all who loved him and made his life special. At Joe's request, no funeral service will be held. The family will honor his memory with a memorial celebration at a future point in time. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Make a Wish Foundation in honor of our lost grandson, Damien. The family would like to thank the caregivers of Memorial Medical Center's ICU for the wonderful care provided to all of us. ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 824 S. Mayflower Road, is assisting the family.
