EDWARDSBURG - Chester Majewski, 87, of Edwardsburg, died on Saturday, December 30, 2006, at 8:41 p.m. in St. Joseph Medical Center, South Bend.

He was born on November 15, 1919, in South Bend, IN, to the late Frank and Bertha (Kucharski) Majewski. Chester served in the U.S. Army's Company B 111 Engineer Combat Battalion. He received a Bronze Star for heroic achievement and was honorably discharged in 1945.

On May 14, 1949, he married Theresa Christine Wieger in South Bend. In 1951 they moved to Edwardsburg where he handcrafted his family's home.

Chester is survived by his wife, Theresa; one daughter and two sons, Charlotte (Michael) Vrabel of Granger, George (Deborah) Majewski of Edwardsburg, Michigan, and Paul Majewski of Saugatuck, Michigan; five grandchildren, Michelle (Ryan) Craig, Beth Majewski, Jeremiah Majewski, Graham Vrabel and Maria Majewski; and two great-grandchildren, Tyler Majewski and Kiley Craig.

He is also survived by his sister, Irene Wrobleski of New Carlisle, Indiana; and two brothers, Ben Majewski of Dolan Springs, Arizona, and Richard Majewski of Cassopolis, Michigan. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Alex Majewski, Roman Majewski, Frank Majewski, Stanley Majewski, Casimer Majewski, Ted Majewski and Joseph Majewski; and a great-grandchild, Ascher Johnson.

Chester was a founding member of St Pius X Catholic Church. He worked for the Uniroyal Corporation until his retirement in 1981. Chester was an avid gardener, handyman, collector, and a member of American Legion Post 365, Edwardsburg.

Viewing was held from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, January 3, 2007, in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend, Indiana, where a parish Rosary was held at 4 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. today, January 4, 2007, in St Pius X Catholic Church, 52553 Fir Road, Granger, Indiana, where friends may call one hour prior to the Mass at St. Pius X. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger.
