SOUTH BEND - Estelle (Wesolowski) West, 99, of River Park, born in Chicago, Illinois to Walter and Mary (Groblewska) Stanek passed away at 8:00 a.m. Saturday, January 7, 2017 in Brookdale of South Bend. On March 30, 1942 Estelle Stanek married Stanley J. (Wesolowski) West in a military wedding at Saint Joseph Catholic Church in Indio, California. Stanley preceded her in death on December 26, 1972. Estelle was also preceded in death by her parents; two sons, Walter and Jay (Wesolowski) West; and one brother, Tony Stanek.For 25 years, she owned and worked with her mother in the grocery and restaurant business. Estelle was also a homemaker for her family. She volunteered at Memorial Hospital for six years and helped at the Saint Augustine's Soup Kitchen for one year. Estelle was a minister of the cup at her church 25 for years, Saint Stanislaus Catholic Church. She was a member of Harvest House when it began in 1972; the Holy Rosary Society; and Grandma's Club. Estelle also enjoyed attending Forever Learning Classes. Estelle leaves, to cherish her memory, two daughters, Mary Jane (Louis) Bukowski, Jr.; Suzanne Schroeter; five grandchildren, Christine Marie Schroeter; Angela Maria (John) Teso; Jason A. West; Daniel J. (Shelly) West; and Tony J. West Coleman; one great-grandson, Kevin J. West; and one great-great granddaughter, Shealyn West. Estelle also leaves behind her nieces, Toni L. (Rodney) Enquist; Mary (John) Majerus; a nephew, Marlo Stanek; and several more beloved nieces and nephews; and her cousins, Walter, Chester, Stanley, and Edward Marciniak. Mom was an astute businesswoman and loved to dabble in the stock market since she was 18 years old, but more importantly she loved to take care of her family and friends, and was always advising and helping everyone with their problems. She had hosted birthday parties for all her family every year for sixty years, always stressing to everyone to love one another and attend church and be a good catholic. Estelle loved people, Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, movies, and Las Vegas gambling. She also took pride in a clean house, enjoyed driving her Cadillac, getting her hair done, dressing up and going downtown to have lunch. She loved and missed her husband Stanley every day.Estelle was a special person who was truly loved by many. She has been stated to say that “nothing that is loved is ever lost and no one who ever touched a heart can really pass away.” Indeed, Estelle loved and was loved. Estelle also loved Notre Dame Football and held season tickets for thirty years. The family will receive friends from 4-8 p.m. Thursday, January 12, 2017 and from 2-8 p.m. Friday, January 13, 2017 at Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend, Indiana, where a Parish Rosary will be prayed at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Estelle at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, January 14, 2017 at her church, St. Stanislaus Roman Catholic Church in South Bend, IN. Burial will follow in Highland Cemetery, where she will be buried next to her husband on the family plot. Memorial contributions in Estelle's honor may be made to St Stanislaus Roman Catholic Church.
