Jack O. Loutzenhiser
January 26, 1927 ~ December 9, 2020 (age 93)
Jack O. Loutzenhiser, 93, residing in Mishawaka, passed away at 10:02 am Wednesday, December 9, 2020 in St. Joseph Regional Medical Center, Mishawaka. He was born January 26, 1927 in Huntertown, IN to the late Russell and Bessie (Gillespie) Loutzenhiser. Jack moved with his family to the South Bend area in 1934, coming from Brinfield, IN. While at a skating rink in South Bend, Jack met a young woman by the name of Ellen A. Hagedorn. They later married in North Augusta, South Carolina on April 22, 1945 where Jack was stationed during the war. They enjoyed 75 wonderful years together before Ellen passed away on August 17, 2020. Surviving Jack is his daughter and son-in-law, Terrie & Marshall Martin of South Bend; two granddaughters, Gail (Bryan) McDaniel and Stacey (J.D.) Gunn, all of South Bend; and two great grandchildren, Brendan and Katherine McDaniel; as well as one brother, Lynn Loutzenhiser of Mishawaka. Jack was preceded in death by siblings, Russell Loutzenhiser, Beverly Wincek, Janice Fidds, Richard Loutzenhiser, Phyllis Burkett, Carolyn Martin and Mona Lou Eaton. Jack served his country honorably in the United States Army. He attended Metals Engineering Institute and was subsequently employed at Bendix Corporation for 48+ years before retiring as a supervisor. He then worked as a funeral assistant for Palmer Funeral Homes for 15 years. He was a longtime member of Grace United Methodist Church, where he served as head usher for more than 50 years. Private graveside services will be held at Southlawn Cemetery, South Bend.
