SOUTH BEND - Walter Harold Zolman, 82, passed away Wednesday, September 9, 2015 in Miller's Merry Manor of New Carlisle. Walt was born March 20, 1933, in Silver Lake, IN, to the late Samuel and Helene (Radtke) Zolman. Walt was preceded in death by his sisters, Florence Arndt, Doris "Dot" Struyf and Arlene Mounce; and brothers, John, Samuel and Max Zolman. On December 17, 1966, in South Bend, Walt married Jean (Martin) Zolman, who survives along with their children, Eric (Kathy) Zolman, Sara Zolman, and Jason Zolman; grandchildren, Tyler Hurtle, Samuel and Maximus Zolman, and Colton Litka; sister, Joyce (Carl) Smith. Walt graduated from Ball State University with a Master's Degree in Industrial Education. He served in the Army during the Korean War. After teaching for 33 years, Walt retired in 1991 from the South Bend Community School Corporation. Chet Waggoner Little League brought Walt years of enjoyment where he coached and was the groundskeeper. He also enjoyed golfing. Walt always put family first - they meant the world to him. A Celebration of Life for Walt will be held Monday, September 14, 2015, from1:00 pm to 5:00 pm in ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 824 S. Mayflower Rd., South Bend. In lieu of flowers, Memorial Contributions may be made to the charity of your choice or St. Jude's Children's Hospital. Remembrances for the family may be made at www.sjfh.net.
