Obituary: Irene M. Verleye

Nov. 29, 1914 -- Nov. 27, 2003

Irene M. Verleye, 88, of West 10th Street, Mishawaka, Ind., passed away suddenly at 11:25 a.m., Thursday, Nov. 27, in her residence. Irene was born on No. 29, 1914, in Mishawaka, as the daughter of the late Hector and Julia (Neyrinck) Van Ooteghem. On Nov. 29, 1934, in St. Bavo Catholic Church, Mishawaka, as the former Irene Van Ooteghem, she married August A. Verleye, who preceded her in death on June 17, 1978. Irene was also preceded in death by one brother and two sisters. Mrs. Verleye is survived by her sons, James (Elaine) Verleye of South Bend, Gary (Linda) Verleye of Mason, Ohio, and Stephen (Marianne) Verleye of Sammamish, Wash.; eight grandchildren, Dawn Verleye, Diane Verleye, David Verleye, Michael Verleye, Stephen Verleye Jr., Debbie (Kerry) Faulkenberg, Danielle (Nathan) Goffinet and Athena Verleye; and by three great-grandchildren, James Faulkenberg, Jonathan Faulkenberg and Abigail Goffinet. Irene was a proud wife and homemaker for her family. She was a lifelong member of St. Bavo Catholic Church where she was a member of the funeral choir and a member of the BK Club's Ladies Auxiliary. She spent her time tending a large rose garden, singing in the church choir, playing cards, reading, and bowling in a weekly league which she did right up to this week. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today, Nov. 30, in the Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W. 8th St., Mishawaka. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 1st, in St. Bavo Catholic Church, with Rev. William Niedhart, CSC, officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery, Mishawaka. Contributions may be made in memory of Irene to St. Bavo Catholic Church, 511 W. 7th St., Mishawaka, IN; or to the American Cancer Society, 535 W. Edison, Unit #6, Mishawaka, IN 46545.
