SOUTH BEND - Helen R. Spromberg, 89, passed away Saturday, December 22, 2007, in her home. She was born on September 4, 1918, in Yonker, NY, to the late Joseph and Kunegunda (Zakrzewska) Winkiewicz. On October 28, 1939, she married the love of her life, Frank J. Spromberg in St. Adalbert Catholic Church. Helen had once worked at South Bend Bait as arod winder. Helen was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church along with being in the Altar Society of the church. Helen enjoyed reading and loved her family very much. Helen is survived by her loving husband of 68 years, Frank; her daughter, Julie (Michael) Leszczynski of South Bend; three sons, Frank (Loretta) Spromberg Jr. of Niles, Lawrence (Judith) Spromberg of South Bend and William (Margaret) Spromberg of Niles; seven grandchildren, Susan Harder, Daniel Spromberg, Lisa Osthimer, Sean Spromberg, Sarah Spromberg, Elliott Leszczynski and Elyse Leszczynski; three great-grandchildren, Brittaney Harder, Tyler Harder
and Brandi Osthimer; two sisters, Alice Imbrogno of Charleston, WV, and Rita Bauwens of Mishawaka; and her sister-in-law, Alice Spromberg of South Bend. Helen was preceded in death by her three sisters, Jenny Wantuch, Gladys Kuhar, and Ann Marut; and her three brothers, Clement Winkiewicz, Joseph Winkiewicz and Al Williams. There will be no visitation. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in Holy Cross Catholic Church, 920 Wilber St., South Bend, with Rev. Michael Matthews officiating. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery. In loving memory of Helen, memorial contributions may be made to The Center of Hospice and Palliative Care, 111 Sunnybrook Court, South Bend, IN 46637 or to the church.
