SOUTH BEND - Frank J. Spromberg, 98, of South Bend passed away at 2:00 a.m. Monday, March 27th in his residence. Frank was born October 30, 1918 in South Bend to the late Mary (Steinkohl) and Fred W. Spromberg and was a lifetime area resident. On October 28, 1939 in South Bend he married Helen Winkiewicz who preceded him in death December 22, 2007. They were married 68 years.Frank served his country during World War II with the 24th infantry. He had the utmost respect of the Veterans Administration (VA) during his lifetime. Frank worked for the Studebaker Corporation until their closing and then ventured out on his own with his business, Frank Spromberg Roofing, retiring from that at the age of 66. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans and VFW Post #360 of Mishawaka, IN. He is survived by his children, Julie Leszczynski (Michael) and Larry Spromberg (Judy) both of South Bend and Billy Spromberg (Margaret) of Niles, MI; daughter-in-law, Loretta Spromberg; of Niles; grandchildren, Susie Hooten (Tom), Lisa Osthimer, Daniel Spromberg (Molly), Sean Spromberg (Kerri), Sarah Spromberg, Elliott Leszczynski, and Elyse Leszczynski; great-grandchildren, Brittany Bays (Brian), Tyler Harder, Brandi Osthimer, and Wyatt and Sierra Spromberg; great great-great-granddaughter, Layla Bays; as well as many nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his parents, wife, Helen, son, Frank J. Spromberg, Jr.; his sister Pauline Spromberg; and brothers, Albert and Fred Spromberg, Jr. Per Frank's wishes a private family graveside service with military honors will be held at Highland Cemetery.
