SOUTH BEND - Gertrude "Gertie" Reiter, 99, passed away at 12:40 am Friday, March 22, 2013, in the South Bend Hospice House. Gertrude was born Jan. 19, 1914, in South Bend, to the late Leo and Anna (Sikorski) Jurgonski. On May 12, 1934, in South Bend, Gertrude married Joseph A. Reiter, who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by sister, Stella Skarupinski; and brothers, Frank, Stanley, Richard & Daniel Jurgonski. Gertrude is survived by a daughter, Pauline (Daniel) Nowicki of South Bend, IN; a son, Thomas J. Reiter of South Bend; five grandsons, Craig (Mary Rose) Nowicki, Todd Nowicki, James Nowicki, Troy (Patti) Reiter and Derek Reiter; five great-grandsons, Joe Nowicki, Eric Nowicki, Cole Nowicki, Ryan Nowicki and William Reiter; three great-granddaughters, Maria Nowicki, Maggie Nowicki and Ruby Reiter; and two step-great-granddaughters, Stephanie and Olivia Smith. Gertrude was a parishioner of St. Casimir Catholic Church and a member of the Harvest House of St. Adalbert's. She was a retired drapery sewer. Visitation for Gertrude will be held on Wednesday, March 27, 2013, from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm, with a funeral service to follow at 12:00 pm in ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 824 S. Mayflower Road. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made out to Center for Hospice and Palliative Care, 111 Sunnybrook Court, South Bend, Indiana 46637.
