SOUTH BEND - Sr. Francesca (Dolores) Klawinski, O.S.F., 81, formerly of South Bend, IN, passed away Thursday, Jan. 3, 2013, after a lengthy illness. She was born on Nov. 19, 1931, to the late Henry and Harriet (Pianowski) Klawinski in South Bend, where she belonged to St. Hedwig's Church and attended South Bend Catholic High School. She entered the Franciscan Sisters of Our Lady of Perpetual Help in 1950, making her profession in 1952. While in the convent, she earned a bachelor's degree in Education from Webster College and a master's degree in History from St. Louis University. As a Franciscan sister, she served as a teacher, administrator, and superior in several schools and churches throughout the country. She was also a Certified Therapeutic Massage Therapist. She will lovingly be remembered for her great devotion to Christ, her love of family, her sense of humor, her delight in adventure, her devotion to Notre Dame football, and her hobbies which included working jigsaw puzzles, visiting garage sales, playing computer games, and collecting American flags, eagles and patriotic poems. She is survived by her sister, Mary Alice (Klawinski) Chmielowiec; brother, Thomas (Jackie) Klawinski; nieces, Therese (Gary) Blacketor & Myra (James) Sweeney; nephews, David (Judi) Chmielowiec, James Mellowitz, & Keith (Tracey) Klawinski; great-niece, Delaney Klawinski; and great-nephews, Darby & Aidan Sweeney, Logan Klawinski, Keller Mellowitz, and Michael & Billy Blacketor (her Godson). She will never be forgotten by those who loved her. In accordance with her wishes, her body has been donated to science. A memorial service will be held in her honor at a later date.
