SOUTH BEND - Donald "Dutch" T. Klimek, 91, of South Bend, IN, passed away at 10:45 a.m. Thursday, July 30, 2015, in his home. He was lovingly known as Dad, Dzia, and Dutch by his family and friends. He was born on February 22, 1924, to the late Michael, Sr. and Martha (Bukowski) Klimek in South Bend, IN, and was a lifelong resident. Along with his parents, Donald was preceded in death by his four brothers, Robert, Norman, Edwin and Michael Klimek. Donald graduated in 1943 from South Bend Catholic High School. On June 19, 1948, he married Sophia H. Novak in St. Stanislaus Church, Michigan City, Indiana. Donald was a loving and devoted husband throughout their many years together. Sophie preceded Donald in death on September 23, 2010. Donald is survived by his loving son and daughter-in-law, Thomas A. and Corrie Klimek of South Bend, IN; and his granddaughter, Sally Ayers Klimek of South Bend, IN. Donald proudly served his country during World War II. He served overseas as a non-commissioned officer with the 4220th Quartermaster Service Company in the Asiatic Pacific Theatre of Operations. He was honorably discharged from service to his country in April 1946. Donald took great delight in sharing the stories of those days with his family and friends, oftentimes reflecting on the places he was stationed and the many friends he made along the way. Donald built a career as a logistics and freight forwarding specialist working for Shippers Dispatch and Tucker Freight. Ultimately, he retired in 1988 from A.M. General Corporation, where he worked for six years. He was an avid sports enthusiast, particularly when it came to local high school and collegiate sports teams. Donald spent many an afternoon compiling statistics and collecting articles for his scrapbook collection. Donald was a member of Corpus Christi Parish.
