Walter Henry Cernak (68) passed away on January 4, 1989 in South Bend, Indiana. Walt was born in South Bend to the late Antoni and Marya (Dembkiewicz) Czernuszewicz. The family name "Czernuszewicz" was changed to Cernak in 1952. On July 10, 1943 Walt married Helen M. Mlynarek in St. Catherine Church of Siena in Detroit. Walt is survived by six children and 12 grandchildren; daughter Marilyn (Cernak) Daignault and her three children, Ronald M., Peter A., and Nicole (Daignault) O'Malley, and five sons, John W. and his two sons, Nicholas and Jonathan Cernak, Walter M. (Jennifer) and their three children, Luke, Robyn, and Jacqueline Cernak, David J., Kenneth J. (LuAnn) and their two children, Timothy and Victoria Cernak, and James A. and his two daughters, Emily and Hannah Cernak. Walt had four siblings, his brother Henry Czernuszewicz of South Bend, born 1919 and died 1921, and three sisters, Delphine "Annie" (Czernuszewicz) Radzius of South Bend, born May 9, 1916 and died December 24, 2003, Helen C. (Czernuszewicz) (Rys) Janasiak of Michigan City, born November 11, 1917 and died May 7, 2001, and Bernice "Bee" (Czernuszewicz) Glancy of Plano, Texas, born March 6, 1923 and died August 8, 1994. Walt was a Tool & Die maker his entire life. Cause of death is unknown but probably a heart attack or stroke.
