GREEN VALLEY, AZ - Gena T. Vida, 84, passed away on October 23, 2007, in Green Valley, AZ. She was born Geneva Turner on January 20, 1923, to Nola Staple Turner and Hila Turner in Monroe County, KY. Gena married Albert L. Love on March 24, 1940. On July 25, 1970, she married George D. Vida. Both husbands, a sister, Ruby Batson, and a daughter, Karen S. Blume, preceded her in death. Gena and George lived in 13 different locations, traveling extensively throughout the Western U.S., returning to the Michiana area in 1998. During their life together they enjoyed meeting people, travel, dancing, dining out, gardening, and they were both avid do-it-yourselfers. She is survived by her three remaining children, James A. Love (Suzanne) of Green Valley, AZ, Kristine Love-VanBelleghem of Niles, MI, and Beverly Pryor of Springfield, OR; and a stepson, Wayne Vida (Joyce) of South Bend, IN. She has seven grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren, four nieces and a nephew. She was a member of Willow Creek United Methodist Church, Mishawaka, IN, and upon moving to Arizona she joined the Green Valley Community Methodist Church. Gena graduated from Riley High School, South Bend, IN, and took a number of courses through the IUSB continuing education program. She also took some drama classes from the Purdue University Extension Service. She was a member of the Eastern Star, Chapter II, was a member of the American Business Women's Society, a former Girl Scout leader and was involved in South Bend schools PTA programs. One of her proudest achievements was singing with the St. Joseph County Extension Service Women's Choir. She performed with the choir at Purdue University and in Toronto, Canada, in 1956. She also completed a Â?Writing for ChildrenÂ? course. She loved writing poetry and wrote a number of poems and short stories. A celebration of Gena's life will be held on Saturday, Nov. 3, at 2 p.m. in the Palmer Funeral Home-River Park, 2528 Mishawaka Ave., South Bend. The family will receive friends from 3 to 7 p.m. Friday in the funeral home. Interment will take place at a later date at Riverview Mausoleum, South Bend. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Cass County Council on Aging, P.O. Box 5, Cassopolis, MI 49031. SBT- November 01, 2007
