Walter Nowak

MISHAWAKA - Walter Nowak, 92, passed away on Saturday, February 24, 2018 in St. Joseph Reginal Medical Center with his loving family by his side. Walter fought a courageous battle with cancer. On October 5, 1985 in Mishawaka, IN, Walter married Patricia (Vaerwick) Nowak who survives along with daughters: Debra (John) Lukowski of Mishawaka, IN, Kathy Ciula of South Bend, IN, Laurie (Thomas) Stanton of Osceola, IN, and Sheri (Jeffrey) Gschwind of Midlothian VA; son, Michael (Julie) Nowak of Mishawaka, IN; sister, Pearl Forcier of South Bend, IN, 16 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great-grandchildren. Walter was born in Osceola, IN, to the late Joseph Nowak and Maryanna (Namyslowski). Also preceded in death are his first wife, Patricia Czosnowski; brothers, Chester, Stanley, John, and Bill Nowak; and sisters, Hattie Wojtysiak, Clara Wachowiak, Wanda Kujawa, and Martha Podlas. Walter honorably served his country in the United States Navy during WWII and was a member of the VFW Post 360. He was a parishioner of St. Monica's Catholic Church in Mishawaka. Walter retired from Dearborn Fabricating on July 6, 1990 with 25 years of service. Walt enjoyed “Family”, golfing at Eberhart everyday for years, woodworking and making things for family and friends. His pride and joy was his beautiful flowers. He enjoyed traveling to many different places. He was a life long Cubs fan and lived to see his Cubbies win the World Series in 2016. Walt had a fantastic sense of humor and loved to make people smile. He will be truly missed by all his family and friends, especially his Special Buddy, “Pudge the Pug”. Visitation for Walter will be Tuesday, February 27, 2018 from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm at ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 824 S. Mayflower Rd. A Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 am Wednesday, February 28, 2018 at the funeral home, with visitation 1 hour prior. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery.
