SOUTH BEND - Ervin J. Szczypski, better known to all as "Skip," 79, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, August 31, 2010. Mr. Szczypski was born on February 24, 1931, in South Bend, to the late Steven and Helen (Wcisel) Szczypski. Mr. Szczypski is survived by his wife of 58 years, Theresa (Leda); sons, David (Brenda), Randy and Steven; daughter, Susan (Mick) Parsons; and three grandchildren, Lee, Tyler and Emily. Mr. Szczypski honorably served his country in the U.S. Army in Korea and Germany from 1948 to 1950. He also had a passion for fishing and the outdoors. Mr. Szczypski had his own construction business, and also worked for 23 years at the South Bend Water Works. A gathering of family and friends will be held at noon until 1:00 p.m. with a memorial service at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, September 3rd, in ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 824 S. Mayflower Road. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the United Cancer Foundation. For those who are unable to attend the memorial service, condolences for the family may be made at www.sjfh.net.
