On Feb. 11, 1908, Rev. Val Czyzewski, pastor of St. Hedwig Catholic Church in South Bend, Indiana, married Josephine Zgodzinski and Bronislaus Magiera. The church marriage record and/or the marriage applications they filed with the county state the following: Josephine, a resident of South Bend, was born Feb. 8, 1884 in South Bend to Franciszek & Catherine (Sobocinski) Zgodzinski; Bronislaus, a barber in South Bend, was born Aug. 19, 1881 in Galacia* to John & Anna (Glina) Magiera. *Galacia, an historical area, now principally in Ukraine. According to the 1910 and 1930 census records of South Bend, Indiana, Bruno Magiera was born in Poland, his wife Josephine in Indiana Their children included the following, in birth order: Eugene, Bernice, Joseph, Helen, Henrietta [aka Patricia], Marie, and Nancy. Josephine's date and place of death are from her Indiana death certificate for which her husband, Bert E. Magiera, was the informant. It was his understanding that she had been born Feb. 8, 1883 in Indiana to Frank & Catherine Zgodzinski.
