===============
On March 28, 1903, Bronislaw Magiera, 28, arrived at the port of New York aboard the S. S. Celtic. He was Polish and was on his way to join his brother Stanislaus Magiera who was living in Whiting, Lake Co., Indiana at the time. (Later, both brothers were living in South Bend). Five years later, in 1908, he married Josephine Zgodzinski in South Bend, Indiana. Refer to her memorial for their shared biography. Bert Magiera signed his name, Bronislaus Magiera, on his 1908 St. Joseph County, Indiana marriage application. He included his middle name Edmund in his signature on his 1918 WWI draft registration card. When Social Security came into being, he registered with the given name Bert, which is the name that appears in his obit and was inscribed on his gravestone. So it appears that by the time Social Security started, he had come to use the name Bert for official purposes. Newspaper accounts indicate that Bronislaus E. Magiera was active in local theatrical productions, often the director of them. Bert's date and place of death are from his Indiana death certificate for which his son, Gene Magera, was the informant. He reported that his father had been a barber in his own shop, and that he was a widower. It was his understanding that his father had been born Aug. 19, 1882 in Poland to John & Anne Magiera.
