Telesila “Teta” Yustwan
Oct. 28, 1928 - April 18, 2017
GRANGER - Telesila “Teta” Yustwan, 88, of Granger, peacefully passed away and lifted to the Lord Tuesday, April 18th at home surrounded by her loving and dedicated family. Telesila was born October 28, 1928 in Canea, Crete, Greece to the late Dr. Apostolos and Eleftharia Hadzidakis. Telesila grew up and was educated in Athens, Greece where she met Robert Yustwan while he was serving in the U.S. Army during World War II. On April 13, 1947 in South Bend, Telesila married the love of her life, Robert W. Yustwan, preceding her in death September 14, 2007 and happily married for 60 years. Also preceding her in death were her sister, Marika Karabine and brother, Nickkolas Hadzidakis both of Athens, Greece. She is survived by her loving daughters, Roberta “Bobbie” VanOsdal (Warren) of Granger and Linda Mikulak (Michael) of Ocala, FL; a brother, Symeon Hadzidakis of Athens, Greece, nieces and nephews of South Bend and extended family in Chicago, Lafayette & Florida. Telesila proudly became an American Citizen in 1949. With a trilingual background she quickly pursued her passion in the medical field anchored in her love & compassion to help others. Continuing her education, Telesila began her career with Memorial Hospital, then was employed with the South Bend Clinic over 30 years as a highly valued Phlebotomist and Lab Tech, retiring in 1992. Talent and expertise throughout her career achieved special requests from patients and doctors for “Teta only”. Telesila's special gift was that when “she loved”, she loved with all her heart, commitment and dedication, the gift she taught her family & they hold dearly. She most of all loved spending time with her daughters and sons-in-law. Having fun playing Backgammon for hours, she loved winning as in everything she did with her competitive and vivacious spirit. Telesila loved traveling to large metropolitan cities, fashion, fun and beautiful manicures. Florida was special, walking and spending time at nature centers, socializing and most recently simply being close, hugging and holding hands with the ones she loved. Her electrifying, vivacious and witty personality left everyone feeling loved and special, never to forget her. She served in The Daughters of Penelope for years, a philanthropic endeavor of the Greek Orthodox Ladies Philoptochos Society. Her faith in Jesus Christ and God gave her daily joy. Telesila will surely be missed and remembered in love and spirit. The family will receive friends from 4 until 7 p.m. Thursday, April 27th in the Welsheimer Family Funeral Home North, 17033 Cleveland Rd., where a Trisagion prayer service will be held at 6:30 p.m. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 am Friday, April 28th in St. Andrew Greek Orthodox Church, 52455 N. Ironwood Rd. with Rev. George Konstantopoulos officiating. Committal services and burial will follow at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger.
