MISHAWAKA - Julius J. Szabo, 95, passed away at home on Sunday, November 6th. Julius was born on March 27, 1916, in Mishawaka to the late Stephen and Julia (Horvath) Szabo. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Elizabeth Hooker. On May 31, 1940, he married the former Helen Burbul, who preceded him in March 1993. Surviving is a daughter, Joan Ferrero of Mishawaka. Julius was a Lathe Operator at Dodge-Reliance for 32 years before he retired in 1978. He also played semi-professional football for a time for the Hoosier Bears. He was an avid gardener, he enjoyed growing both vegetables and flowers. Visitation will be today, November 9, from 12 to 2 p.m. in the Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W. 8th Street, Mishawaka. Funeral services will follow in the funeral home at 2 p.m., with Rev. Kevin Bauman officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery, Mishawaka.
