MISHAWAKA - Daniel Dzierla, 96, passed away Tuesday, July 1, 2014, in the St. Joseph Regional Medical Center. Daniel was born March 7, 1918, in South Bend, to the late Frank and Antoinette Dzierla. Dan was also preceded in death by an infant son, Terry Dzierla; brothers, Frank and Ed; and sisters, Laura, Clara and Emily. Survivors of Daniel include his loving wife of 71 years, Elizabeth L. (Mindykowski) Dzierla; and their children, Carolynne S. Deadmond of South Bend, David Dzierla of Mishawaka and Diane (Kevin) Mark of Auburn; brother, John, and sister, Angeline; five grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson. Daniel honorably served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII, earning a Silver Star. He worked maintenance at Drewrys and was a packer at General Liquors. Daniel was a parishioner of St. Anthony de Padua Catholic Church. He was a member of the Elks Lodge #235 and VFW. Daniel was a "starter" for many area golf courses. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, and mushroom hunting with his brothers. Visitation for Daniel will be 10:30 am to 12:30 pm, Monday, July 7, 2014, in ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 824 S. Mayflower Rd. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:00 pm on Monday, July 7, 2014, in St. Anthony de Padua Catholic Church. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery.
