SOUTH BEND -Chester J. Chodzinski, 84, of South Bend, passed away on Saturday, June 20, 2009, in his home. He was born on May 9, 1925, in South Bend, to the late Peter and Mary (Romsicki) Chodzinski. On November 8, 1947, he married Dolores Stephens, who preceded him in death on June 23, 1994. Along with his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by two granddaughters, Amy and Melissa Chodzinski; a great-grandson, Ashton; and by a brother, Daniel Chodzinski. Chester is survived by his six sons, Thomas (Vickie), Stephen, David, Patrick and James Chodzinski, all of South Bend, and Timothy Chodzinski of New Carlisle; four grandchildren, Andrew (Amy), Adam, Jacob and Mandy Chodzinski; two great-grandchildren, Honey Rose Jachimiak and Logan Chodzinski; and by his beloved dog, "Sweetie." Mr. Chodzinski retired from Budd Company of Gary in 1983 and had been previously employed by Studebaker. He was a parishioner of St. Stanislaus B.M. Catholic Church. Chester enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, raising pigeons and eating GYROS on LWW, his favorite restaurant. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, June 25, 2009, in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, where a parish Rosary will be prayed at 4:30 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, June 26, 2009, in St. Stanislaus B.M. Catholic Church, with burial to follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, South Bend. Memorial contributions may be made to The Center for Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc., 111 Sunnybrook Court, South Bend, IN 46637. The family would like to thank the St. Joseph Hospital ICU Unit, Hospice, Living Nurses Association, and Sanya Owens for all the care they gave our dad.
