SOUTH BEND - Mary A. Grunwald, 94, passed away at 12:45 pm Wednesday, April 11, 2012 in Memorial Hospital. Mary was born on July 16, 1917 in South Bend to Steve and Rose (Degovits) Strantz. On January 29, 1944 as Mary Strantz she married Anton Grunwald. He died on June 22, 1989. She was also preceded in death by a son, Thomas Grunwald; a sister, Rose Egyhazi; and a son-in-law, Leo LaBerge. Surviving are 5 daughters: Kathleen (John) Sams of New Carlisle, Rosalie LaBerge of Michigan City, Ann Marie (Don) Kelly, Marlene (Jim) Woodworth and Karen (Fred) Gaboury all of South Bend; 1 son, Steven Grunwald of South Bend; a daughter-in-law, Mary Grunwald of North Liberty; a brother-in-law, John Egyhazi of South Bend; 11 grandchildren; and 6 great-grandchildren. Mary was a member of Our Lady of Hungary Church, the former D.F.V. German Club Ladies Auxiliary and the Rum Village Neighborhood Association. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12:00 pm Saturday, April 14, 2012 in Our Lady of Hungary Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Highland Cemetery. Family and friends may call from 4-8 Friday in the Zahoran Funeral Home, 1826 Kemble Avenue where a Rosary will be recited at 5:00 pm. Survivors include daughters Kathleen (John) Sams, Rosalie LaBerge, Ann Marie (Don) Kelly, Marlene (Jim) Woodworth & Karen (Fred) Gaboury, son Steven Grunwald, 11 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 12 pm Saturday, April 14, in Our Lady of Hungary Catholic Church. Family & friends called from 4-8 Friday in the Zahoran Funeral Home, 1826 Kemble Avenue where a rosary was recited at 5 pm.
