SOUTH BEND - Joseph (Joe) R. Iwaszewski, 85, of Brush Prairie, WA, former resident of South Bend, passed away on December 14, 2011, after an extended illness. Joe was born on May 17, 1926, in South Bend, IN, to the late Robert and Anna (Jagodzinski) Iwaszewski. On Nov. 29, 1947, he married Adelaine Koziatek, who resides in Vancouver, WA. Besides his wife, Adelaine, Joe is survived by his daughters, Nancy (Michael) Hecklinski of Holmes Beach, FL, & Carol (Rolando) Ortegon of Vancouver, WA; his son, Paul (Sherry) Iwaszewski of New Carlisle, IN; six grandchildren, two step-granddaughters, six great-grandchildren and one step-great-granddaughter. Joe is also survived by a sister, Henrietta Dominiak of Jacksonville, FL, and was preceded in death by his brother, Ben Iwaszewski, and his sisters, Harriet Zakrocki and Virginia Adams. Joe was a graduate of the former South Bend Catholic High School, a World War II veteran, was an active parishioner of Holy Family Catholic Church, a member of American Legion Post 357 and the VFW. He was a butcher all his life at the former Vince's Super Saver and Park n Shop, both in South Bend. At 10:00 AM on Saturday, March 17, 2012, a memorial service and celebration of Joe's life will be held at Holy Family Church, located at 56405 Mayflower Road in South Bend. Burial will be at St. Joseph's Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association
