LAPAZ, IN - Roger D. Kaser, 72, residing in LaPaz, passed away at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 26, 2009 at the Hospice House, South Bend, after an extended illness. Mr. Kaser was born on September 29, 1936 in Lakeville to the late Arthur and Berniece (Dyer) Kaser. Roger has been a lifelong area resident. On January 19, 1986 in Tyner, he married Mary E. (Nye) Grubbs who survives. Along with his wife, Mary, survivors include six daughters, Penny (Kenny) Stafford of Koontz Lake, Robin Kaser of Plymouth, Kandi (Rich) Kennedy of Warsaw, Hope Kaser of Mishawaka, Gina Pearson of Fishers, and Ellen Grubbs of LaPaz; two sons, Roger Kaser, Jr. of Koontz Lake and Eric (Barbara) Grubbs of LaPaz; nineteen grandchildren; two great grandchildren; one sister, Shirley Hittle of LaPaz; and one brother, Claude "Shorty" Kaser of North Liberty. One grandson, Kenneth Stafford, Jr., preceded in death. Mr. Kaser retired in 1978 from Bendix Corporation after 12 years of employment. He also worked in catering at Pat's Bar in LaPaz for 18 years, as well as, the Bottle Stop. Mr. Kaser proudly served his country during the Korean War with the United States Army. He was a 46 year member of the American Legion Post 385, LaPaz and a member of the Volunteer Fire Department in LaPaz for 18 years. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, March 2, 2009 at the Palmer Funeral Home, 314 S. Michigan Street, Lakeville. Chaplain Tom Padberg will officiate. Military graveside services will follow at Fair Cemetery, North Liberty. Friends may visit with the family from 2-6 p.m. on Sunday, March 1st, at the Palmer Funeral Home, Lakeville. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Roger D. Kaser may be donated to The Center for Hospice and Palliative Care, 112 S. Center Street, Suite C. , Plymouth, IN 46563.
