South Bend - Harry J. Skierkowski, 88, passed away on Thursday, July 18, 2019 in the Hospice House of St. Joseph County with his daughter at his side. Harry was born September 10, 1930 in South Bend, to the late John and Stefania Kurlanski) Skierkowski. On January 18, 1958 Harry married Patricia (Bentkowski) Skierkowski, she preceded him in death on August 22, 2006. Harry is also preceded in death by his step-father, Edward Wolak; brothers, Theordore & Sylvester; sisters, Esther Rynearson & Dorothy Gorski; and a niece, Sandra Kucharski.
Left to cherish the memory of Harry is his daughter, Diane Skierkowski. He is also survived by his brother, Robert (Clara) Wolak; nieces, Pamela Jones & Mary Jo Kaiser; and nephew, Steven Bentkowski, Sr.; great-great-nieces, Katie Szulczyk, and Sloane Bentkowski; great-great-nephew Trey Bentkowski; and many more dear nieces and nephews. Harry honorably served his country in the United States Marines during the Korean War. He retired in 1993 from Koontz Wagner. Harry was a member of St. Mary's National Catholic Church. He enjoyed traveling, fishing, hunting and going to the casino. Visitation for Harry will be 4:00 to 7:00 pm on Thursday, July 25, 2019 in ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 824 S. Mayflower Rd. with a Prayer Service to be held at 6:00 pm; and again on 8:30 am to 9:30 am on Friday, July 26, 2019 in the Funeral Home Chapel, with a prayer at 9:30 am. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am in St. Mary’s Polish National Catholic Church. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery.
