SOUTH BEND - Eugene A. "Gene" Rozycki, 98, passed away at 11:23 a.m. Monday, December 14, 2009, in the Sanctuary at Holy Cross. Eugene was born on January 3, 1911, in South Bend, to the late Anthony and Stella (Kubacki) Rozycki. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Stella (Wroblewski), who passed away on May 21, 1973.

He was also preceded in death by his two sons, William and James Rozycki; two brothers, Casimir Rose and John Rozycki; and by his three sisters, Mary Paskiet, Sally Maciejewski and Helen Abel.

Eugene married Joan (Gapczynski) on June 24, 1979, who survives and lives in South Bend. He is also survived by his daughter-in-law, Marian Rozycki of South Bend; two grandchildren, Dr. Todd (Nicole Burnette M.D.) Rozycki, MD, of South Bend and Garin (Tina) Rozycki of Yuma, AZ; two great-granddaughters, Sophia and Lily Rozycki; and by two great-grandsons, Brandon and Jesse Rozycki.

Eugene was a parishioner of St. Hedwig Catholic Church, a former member of the St. Hedwig choir, Holy Name Society and a member of 3 Cs. He was the Horseshoe City Champ in 1929. Eugene worked 20 years for Studebaker and retired from Allied Products after eight years in 1977. After retirement he worked part-time at Roseland Animal Hospital for about eight years. Eugene's family would like to thank the staff at Sanctuary at Holy Cross for their tender care. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. on Friday, December 18, 2009, in ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 824 S. Mayflower Road, where a Rosary will be prayed at 6:30 p.m. Family and friends may gather in St. Hedwig Catholic Church from 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday, December 19, 2009, and a Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10 a.m. in the church. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Center for Hospice and Palliative Care, 111 Sunnybrook Court, South Bend, IN 46637; or to St. Hedwig Catholic Church, 331 S. Scott St., South Bend, IN 46601. For those who are unable to attend the funeral Mass, condolences for the family may be made at www.sjfh.net.
