SOUTH BEND - Thomas T. Poulos, 92, of South Bend, IN, passed away on Friday, May 31, 2013. He was born on April 25, 1921, in Boone, Iowa, to the late Theodore and Mary (Baki) Poulos. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Penelope Poulos; son, Theodore (Suzanne) Poulos of St. Thomas, Ontario; daughters, Andrea Miller of Munster, IN, and Marina (Charles) Carlin of South Bend, IN; grandchildren, Alexis (Robert) Gutierrez, Nicole Miller and Jeff Power; great-grandchildren, Laura and David Gutierrez; sister, Angeline Mercury of Northbrook, IL; and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Poulos was a graduate of the University of Iowa and a member of the Dolphin Fraternity swim team. He retired in 1988 as a chemist at Uniroyal after 47 years of service, and as a member of the American Society for Testing and Materials, and the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), he and his wife traveled world-wide. He was a member, parish council president, and founder of the library at the St. Andrew Greek Orthodox Church. He was also a charter member of the United Religious Community of St. Joseph County, and former president of the Izaak Walton League of America, South Bend chapter. Throughout his life he thoroughly enjoyed his Greek culture, family outings, model railroading, candy making, stamp collecting, traveling and swimming. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 5, 2013, at the St. Andrew Greek Orthodox Church, 52455 Ironwood Road, South Bend, IN. Graveside services and burial will follow at Southlawn Cemetery, South Bend. Friends may visit with the family on Tuesday from 5:00-8:00 p.m. (Trisagion at 7:30 p.m.) in the Palmer Funeral Home-Guisinger Chapel, 3718 S. Michigan St., South Bend, IN.
