SOUTH BEND - Geraldine "Geri" Jakubowicz, 85, passed away Thursday, July 18, 2013, in Memorial Hospital. Geraldine "Geri" was born September 16, 1927, to William and Hattie (Szynski) Galvas, who preceded her death. Geri also had four brothers, Floyd Galvas of California, Robert Galvas, James Galvas and Conrad Galvas (deceased); and a sister, Joan Wukovits. On July 9, 1949, Geri married Joseph "Jake" Jakubowicz, who died August 9, 2007. They had four children, Joseph (Laura) Jakubowicz, William and Robert (Bobby) Jakubowicz, and Julie (Denny) DeBuysser; three grandchildren, Christopher Martin (Jaci), Kyle Jakubowicz (Denise) and Matthew Jakubowicz; and two great-grandchildren, Mason Jakubowicz and Hadley Martin. Geri was retired in 1987 from Sears Roebuck after many years of service; she also worked at Hillview Dairy Store on Western Avenue, where she made many friends. Geri was a parishioner of Holy Family Catholic Church, Polish Women's Alliance Group 305, Holy Family Altar and Rosary Society, and volunteered for the Monday night Bingo. Visitation for Geri will be 2:00 pm to 8:00 pm today, July 21, 2013, in ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 824 S. Mayflower Road, with a Rosary to be prayed at 4:00 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am Monday, July 22, 2013, in Holy Family Catholic Church. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Center for Hospice and Palliative Care, 111 Sunnybrook Court, South Bend, IN 46637; or Holy Family Catholic Church, 56405 Mayflower Road, South Bend, IN 46619.
