SOUTH BEND - Theodore “Ted” Taelman, 83, of South Bend, passed away on Wednesday, November 23rd, in his residence with his family by his side. He was born on August 13, 1933, in New Carlisle, IN, to the late Renee and Genevieve (Chrobot) Taelman. He played basketball all four years at New Carlisle High School. On February 16, 1956, in South Bend, he married Roseann Deka, who survives. Ted is also survived by his daughter, Diane R. Taelman of South Bend; his son, Jeffrey M. (Carmen) Taelman of Walkerton; three grandchildren, Jeremy, Ashley and Amanda; five great-grandchildren, Jeremy, Jr., Jordan, Nicole, Peyton and Hunter; and his sister, Sylvia Taelman of South Bend. He was preceded in death by a son, Douglas S. Taelman on February 22, 2004, a sister, Sandy Plank, and a brother, Bud Taelman. Ted was owner and barber of Ted's Barber Shop in South Bend since 1963. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the American Legion Post 400 and the American Polish Falcons Nest 4. He loved to go fishing and hunting. Visitation will be held on Monday, November 28th, from 5:00 to 8:00 PM at Hanley and Sons Funeral Home “Southwest Chapel,” located at State Road 23/W. Ireland Road, South Bend. Funeral services and burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the Cleveland Clinic, 9500 Euclid Ave., Cleveland, OH 44195; or the Marine Corps League, Attn: HIB PAYMASTER, 550 South Audubon Rd., Indianapolis, IN 46219.
