Obituary from p. 10 of the 1 JUN 1940 edition of the “South Bend Tribune”:

Joseph A. Jurek, aged 34, of 515 South 35th street, died' at 10:30 p.m. Friday in St. Joseph hospital. after an illness of four months. He was born in South Bend Jan. 6, 1906, and lived here all his life. On Sept. 3, 1928, he was married in St. Casimir's Roman Catholic church here to Miss Wanda Smolka, who survives. Also surviving are the parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lottie Jurek, South Bend; four brothers, Dr. Larry Jurek, Chicago; Stanley, Julius and Chester Jurek, all of South Bend, and four sisters, Mrs. Harriet Pukrop, Mrs. Marie Janik, Mrs. Dorothy Zielinska and Miss Margaret Jurek, all of South Bend. Friends may call at the home. The funeral will be held at 9 a. m. Tuesday in St. Monica's Roman Catholic church, Mishawaka, with Rev. Anthony Badina, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Polish cemetery.
