Friends and family remember young man killed at bar
SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- A night out at the American Legion Post has left one young man dead in an act those who knew him are calling senseless. 25-year-old Theodore Braun was shot and killed inside the bar. Friends of Braun said he was trying to stop another man from driving drunk before he was shot. Investigators have identified that man as 59-year-old Bruce Bennett. People inside the legion pinned Bennett down until police arrived and he was taken in for questioning. Bennett was arrested by police just after 4 a.m. Saturday on preliminary murder charges. Now, those who knew Braun are doing what they can to remember him and mourn a young life lost sharing heartfelt messages both at the scene and online. And the American Legion Department of Indiana Commander, Rodney Strong, is reacting to the tragedy as well, sharing this statement:
“The American Legion family has suffered a loss this holiday season. Our thoughts and prayers are with South Bend post 284 as they begin the mourning process. As an organization of veterans, we know the cost of violence. With this knowledge we dedicate ourselves to peace and mutual helpfulness to our communities across Indiana. We encourage all of our Legion Family to stay safe this holiday season, use caution and be vigilant." “A heart of gold” and an “active member at the American Legion” is how some who stopped by Braun’s memorial have described him. A candle-lit vigil for Braun will be held at the American Legion Post 284 on Grant Street at 5:30 Sunday. Source: https://www.abc57.com/news/friends-and-family-remember-young-man-killed-at-bar
