SOUTH BEND, IN - Thomas “Tom” E. Dodd, 89, passed away on Tuesday, September 18, 2018 in the Bell Tower Nursing Facility. Tom was born July 31, 1929 in South Bend, to the late Ralph and Hilma (Petersen) Dodd. Tom is also preceded in death by his sisters, Pauline Ritchie and Barbara Johnson; and brothers, Richard & Harry Dodd. On May 29, 1954 Tom married his loving wife of 64 years, Loraine (Szyja) Dodd. She survives along with their children, Thomas J. (Lori) Dodd and Anne (George Gordon) Schramm; and a granddaughter, Amanda Schramm. Tom honorably served his country in the United States Army. He retired in 1991 from Allied Signal/ Bendix/Honeywell Corp. where he was an Engineering Designer for 36 years. Tom was a parishioner of Holy Family Catholic Church and was very involved in the church. He was a member of M.R. Falcons and bowled in the Chippewa Golden Gang. He enjoyed sports, golfing, & bowling, and was an avid Notre Dame and Cubs fan. Tom ushered at Notre Dame stadium for 50 years. He loved his family very much, especially his granddaughter, nicknamed Peachie. Visitation for Tom will be held 3:00pm to 7:00pm Friday, September 21, in ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 824 S. Mayflower Rd. with a Rosary to be prayed at 6:30pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00am on Saturday, September 22, 2018 in Holy Family Catholic Church. Entombment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Holy Family Catholic Church, 56405 S. Mayflower Rd., South Bend, IN 46619.
