[N20964] HAROLD E. ZENISEK, SR. M.D., 86 ROCKFORD - Harold E. Zenisek, Sr. M.D., 86, of Rockford, passed away Friday, January 24, 2014, in P.A. Peterson Center for Health, ready to continue his spiritual journey to God. Born Jan. 26, 1927, in Pontiac, Ill., the son of John and Stacia (Bocek) Zenisek. Served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He married Joanne L. Hoffman Aug. 4, 1951, in Abingdon, Ill. Harold completed graduate school at the Illinois Institute of Technology in 1950, then earned his M.D. from the University of Illinois Medical School in 1955. He was a physician in Rockford for 32 years, retiring in 1991. During his fulfilling medical career, Harold served as Chief of Staff at OSF St. Anthony Medical Center, and was instrumental in the development of the University of Illinois College of Medicine in Rockford. He was a member of Bethesda Covenant Church, Winnebago County Medical Society, Illinois State Medical Society, and the American Medical Society. Harold was proud of his and Joanne's active participation in recovery for over three decades, and enjoyed the Couples in Recovery (CIR) group they formed and hosted in their home for many years. His greatest love was his family and the time they spent together camping, fishing, and gardening. He will be forever remembered for the way he celebrated life, cherished family gatherings, and fostered family traditions. The family shared a Christmas lunch at Marshall Field's Walnut Room for 55 consecutive years. He is survived by his wife, Joanne; children, Harold (Connie Frazier) Zenisek Jr. of Rockford, Peter (Shelly) Zenisek of Granger, Ind., Paul (Jo Ellyn) Zenisek of Racine, Wis., and Karen Zenisek of Elmhurst, Ill.; grandchildren, Skyler of Granger, Ind., and Rachel and Lauren of Racine, Wis.; and brothers, William and Edward Zenisek. Predeceased by two brothers; and three sisters. Special thanks to OSF St. Anthony Medical Center, the staff at P.A. Peterson, and Rev. David Lindfors, pastor of Bethesda Covenant Church. Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 30, 2014, in Bethesda Covenant Church, 2101 E. State St., with Rev. David Lindfors officiating. Visitation from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 29, in Olson Funeral & Cremation Services, Ltd., Fred C. Olson Chapel, 1001 Second Ave., and from 10 to 10:45 a.m. Thursday prior to the service in the church. Private family burial in Scandinavian Cemetery at a later date.
