William Stempin, 71, of State Road 23, South Bend, Ind., died at 7:25 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 26, in Hospice House of St. Joseph County. He was born on Nov. 16, 1928, in South Bend, and was a lifetime area resident. He was a self employed farmer. He was a veteran of World War II and a lifetime member of Disabled American Veterans Chapter #6. Mr. Stempin is survived by five sisters, Stella Zultanski and Caroline Boosi, both of South Bend, Irene Kaplon of New Carlisle, Ind., Josephine Sutek of Peshtigo, Wis., and Veronica Pitlak of Orlando, Fla. He was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Porte. Family and friends may call from 2 to 6 p.m. on Sunday in the St. Joseph Funeral Home, 824 S. Mayflower Road, South Bend, where a prayer service will be held at 5 p.m. Services will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday in the St. Joseph Funeral Home, 824 S. Mayflower Road, with burial to follow at Cedar Grove Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of St. Joseph County, 111 Sunnybrook Court, South Bend, IN 46637-3437; or to St. Mary Polish National Catholic Church, 1601 W. Sample Street, South Bend, IN 46619. William was a generous brother, uncle and friend to everyone and loved by everyone who knew him.
