SOUTH BEND - Robert C. Heminger, 77 years old, passed away at 7:35 a.m. on Wednesday, July 5, 2017, at the Hospice House, Elkhart. Mr. Heminger was born on April 10, 1940, in South Bend, to the late Charles E. and Cecila (Walkowiak) Heminger. He has remained a lifelong resident. On March 11, 2000, in South Bend, Robert was united in marriage to the former Diane Peterson, who survives. Along with his wife, Diane, Mr. Heminger is survived by one daughter, Heidi (Edward) Bradley of South Bend; stepdaughter, Bertie Perry of Sarasota, FL; stepson, James Kalafat of South Bend; six grandchildren and four step-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brother, Ronald D. Heminger. Mr. Heminger retired from AM General in December 1996 after over 30 years of employment. He was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, Lakeville. Mr. Heminger loved cars and enjoyed walking five miles a day for the past twenty years. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, July 10, 2017, at the Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, 63568 U.S. 31 South, Lakeville. A private burial will take place at Mount Calvary Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family from 3:00-5:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 9, at the Palmer Funeral Home-Guisinger Chapel, 3718 S. Michigan Street, South Bend, where the Rosary will begin at 3:00 p.m. Contributions in memory of Robert C. Heminger may be donated to Hospice Foundation, 501 Comfort Place, Mishawaka, IN 46545.
