SOUTH BEND - Henrietta L. Elias, 89, of South Bend, IN, passed away at 6:30 a.m. Saturday, December 13, 2014 at Memorial Hospital in South Bend, IN. She was born on February 8, 1925 to the late Joseph Martin and Josephine (Stankiewicz) Chlebek in South Bend, IN, and was a lifelong resident. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her step-mother, Clara (Dorn) Chlebek; and a brother, Joe Chlebek. Henrietta was a homemaker, and also worked as a Seamstress at H.D. Lee and Company in South Bend, IN, for 12 years. On October 28, 1950, as Henrietta Chlebek, she married John L. Elias at Holy Cross Catholic Church in South Bend, IN. He died on August 8, 2014. Henrietta is survived by her two sisters, Lorraine (Emery) Elias of South Bend, IN and Mary Kay (Richard) Burbee of Traverse City, MI; two brothers, Donald (Gloria) Chlebek of South Bend, IN and Richard Chlebek of Edwardsburg, MI; several special nieces & nephews; and several great-nieces & great-nephews. Henrietta was a long time member of Corpus Christi Parish. She was a wonderful seamstress who especially loved to make lap quilts and other crafts. Henrietta played the organ, loved to read, and enjoyed gardening and growing flowers. She also loved spending time with her husband at their lake cottage in Marcellus, MI. Visitation will be from 10 11 a.m. Thursday, December 18, 2014 at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, 2801 Corpus Christi Way, South Bend, IN, where a Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00 a.m. Thursday.
