SOUTH BEND - Our Angel, Irene E. Rybicki, 90, has gone to rest on Wednesday, October 28, 2009, at 2:20 a.m. in her home. Irene was born on February 22, 1919, in Sioux Falls, SD, to the late Nicholas and Mary (Stangreciak) Genchoff. She was also preceded in death by her two brothers, Stanley and Thomas; and by her sister, Gertrude Genchoff. On February 21, 1939, in South Bend, she married Sylvester Rybicki, who survives along with their three children, Carol Ann Critchlow of South Bend, Kenneth (Kathe) Rybicki of South Bend and Robert (Kay) Rybicki of Mishawaka; nine grandchildren, Diane (Ron) Sopczynski, Linda (Mark) Dombrowski, James (Cindy) Critchlow, Ed Critchlow, Kevin (Rose) Rybicki, Kelly Collins, Kolleen Rybicki, Matt (Tracy) Longfellow and Shelly Longfellow; 11 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Irene retired in 1982 after 20 years as the head cook for LaSalle High School. She was a parishioner at St. Adalbert Catholic Church. She was a member of the Harvest House and was the president for 21 years. Irene loved playing the slot machines at the casino. She also loved to cook and bake, and was very devoted to her family. Visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. today, October 29, in ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 824 S. Mayflower Road, where a Rosary will be prayed at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, October 30, at 10:00 a.m. in St. Adalbert Catholic Church. Entombment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, South Bend. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Center for Hospice and Palliative Care, 111 Sunnybrook Court, South Bend, IN 46637. For those who are unable to attend the funeral liturgy, condolences for the family may be made at www.sjfh.net.
