SOUTH BEND - Sylvester "Sally" M. Rybicki, 97, went to join his angel "Ike" at 6:57 pm on Friday, March 30, 2012, in his home. Sylvester was born on December 31, 1914, in South Bend, to the late Samuel and Bernice Rybicki. On February 21, 1939, Sylvester married the love of his life, Irene (Genchoff), who preceded him in death on October 28, 2009. Sylvester is survived by daughter, Carol Ann Critchlow of South Bend; sons, Kenneth (Kathe) Rybicki of South Bend and Robert (Kay) Rybicki of Mishawaka; nine grandchildren, Diane (Ron) Sopczynski, Linda (Mark) Dombrowski, James (Cindy) Critchlow, Ed Critchlow, Kevin (Rose) Rybicki, Kelly Collins, Kolleen (Mike) Bennett, Matt (Tracy) Longfellow and Shelly Longfellow; 18 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. Sylvester was a United States Navy CB in the Philippines during World War II. He worked for Studebaker's for 23 years, and Allied Stamping for 18 years before retiring in 1982. He was a member of AFL-CIO, U.A.W. Local #5 and was a former Vice President of St. Adalbert's Harvest House. His joy was in his family, and he was a Cubs and Bears fan. He enjoyed playing "Giddy Up Horsey" with his great-great-grandchild, Braxton, "my big boy," who made him light up every time he visited. The family would like to express a special "Thank You" to the Center for Hospice employees Colleen and Micoleen. Visitation will be from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm today, April 3, 2012, in ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 824 S. Mayflower Road, where a Rosary will be prayed at 4:00 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:00 pm on Wednesday, April 4, 2012, in St. Adalbert Catholic Church. Entombment will follow in Resurrection Gardens at St. Joseph Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Center for Hospice and Palliative Care, 111 Sunnybrook Court, South Bend IN 46637. Condolences for the family may be made at www.sjfh.net.
