MISHAWAKA - Jerry Janosik, 86, passed away after a brief illness while vacationing in Cancun, Mexico. He was born in Chicago, IL, on March 6, 1930. His ashes will be interred in the Janosik/Jakab family area of Woodlawn Cemetery, Forest Park, IL. Jerry married Evelyn Jakab in Cicero, IL, on Aug. 6th, 1955. She survives in Mishawaka, IN. He is also survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Nancy Janosik; and grandchildren, David, Kathleen, and Matthew, who reside in Granger, IN; by daughter and son-in-law, Cynthia and Mitch Strobin; and grandchildren, Alexis, Nicholas, and Samantha, who reside in Chapel Hill, NC; and by daughter and son-in-law, Sandra Janosik and Derrick Rowe; and grandchildren, Danielle and Michael Rowe, who reside in Ringoes, NJ. Jerry also leaves behind a brother, Charles Janosik, who resides in Santa Monica, CA. Preceding Jerry in death were his parents, Jerry and Ann (Beblevy) Janosik, dear cousin, Lillian (Janosik) Bruha, and infant son, Steven Janosik. Jerry began his work career selling newspapers on the street corners of Cicero,IL, proceeded to soda jerk at the local drugstore, then to grocery stock boy, a multitude of summer jobs, and as a steelworker in Chicago-based Kropp Forge. He attended Morton High School and junior college in Cicero, IL, IIT in Chicago, obtained a BS degree in Electrical Engineering from Purdue University, and a Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering from Notre Dame University. He was employed as plant manager at the St. Joseph's Hospital, South Bend, and completed his working career after 36 years with Bendix-Honeywell, first in Mishawaka and later in South Bend. Jerry was a 30-year member of Toastmasters International, and spent the years progressing through the Toastmasters manuals and competing in speech contests on local, divisional and state levels. After retiring in 1995, Jerry spent his time attending the birth of his 8 adored grandchildren whenever possible, doing whatever he could to nurture and challenge them, and attempting to lighten the burdens of their frequently overtaxed parents. He and wife, Evelyn, managed to travel to many of the exotic locations they had hoped, in earlier years, to see. Next to family, he most treasured the friendships he made throughout his life - His high school bachelor's club which evolved into the grandfather's club, his high school reunion committee members, his 40 years of bridge friends, his Toastmasters acquaintances, and his many Honeywell friends, including those who kept him alive at work after his second heart attack so that he might live to enjoy his 20 years of retirement. A summer memorial service for friends and family is being planned. Published in South Bend Tribune from Apr. 2 to Apr. 3, 2016
