[N2316] SOUTH BEND - Robert S. Kwiatkowski, 87, of South Bend, passed away on Friday, February 26, 2016 at Hospice House, South Bend. He was born on September 19, 1928, in South Bend, to the late Peter and Mary Kwiatkowski, and was a lifelong area resident. On May 16, 1953, he married Loretta Niemier, who preceded him in death on December 17, 2009. Also preceding him in death were eight brothers, Walter, Edward, Charles, Clem, Ray, John, Peter “Pete” and Joseph Kwiatkowski. He is survived by his sons, Joseph (Connie) Kwiatkowski and Paul (Beth) Kwiatkowski, both of South Bend; four grandchildren, Craig and Brian (Jessica) Kwiatkowski and Adam and Nicholas Kwiatkowski; two great-grandchildren, Kennedy and Carson Kwiatkowski; and one brother, Stanley “Steve” Kwiatkowski. Robert retired from the South Bend Parks Department in 1990, where he worked 16 years. He was a United States Army veteran, a member of the American Legion Pulaski Post #357, VFW #8748, Army / Navy Club, ZB Falcons, and St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, where he served as an usher. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, February 29, 2016, at the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, where a Parish Rosary will be prayed at 4:30 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 1, 2016, at St. Stanislaus Church, 415 N. Brookfield St., South Bend. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, with full military honors.
