SOUTH BEND - Elfriede H. Unger, 78, of South Bend, IN, passed away at 8:04 a.m. Tuesday, April 1, 2014, at Memorial Hospital. She was born on May 24, 1935, in Wurzburg, Germany, to the late Rudolph Carl and Margaret (Klein Muller) Schuller. On November 15, 1958, in LaPorte, IN, she married Gordon R. Unger, who preceded her in death on September 4, 2002. She was also preceded in death by an infant daughter, Deborah Christine Unger. Mrs. Unger is survived by her daughter, Angelika (Gerald) Moffett of Apache Junction, AZ; four sons, Donald C. Unger of South Bend, IN, Danny (Debbie) Unger of South Bend, IN, Michael (Julie) Unger of Osceola, IN, and Robert Unger of South Bend, IN; thirteen grandchildren, Cecil (Kellie) Porman of Elkhart, IN, Chrissy (Rick) Bonek of Granger, IN, Bobbie (Jay) Ragan of Apache Junction, AZ, Michael Unger, Brandon Unger, Brittaney Unger and Lauren Unger, all of South Bend, IN, Cassie Unger and Anthony Unger, both of Osceola, IN, Jessica (Ryan) Woolwine of Mishawaka, IN, Brittney (Cole) Hilfman of Granger, IN, Robert (Paige) Unger III of Lakeville, IN, and Dakota Unger of South Bend, IN; sixteen great-grandchildren; and two brothers. Mrs. Unger moved to South Bend, IN, in 1958, coming from Germany. She was a homemaker and worked as a cook for Tom and Lynn's Kitchenette for over forty years. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, April 5, 2014, at the Palmer Funeral Home-Guisinger Chapel, 3718 S. Michigan St., South Bend, IN. Friends may visit with the family two hours prior to the service. Graveside services and burial will follow at Southlawn Cemetery, South Bend. Contributions in memory of Elfriede H.
