SOUTH BEND - Lillian N. Gruber, 89, passed away at 6:30pm, Wednesday October 12, 2016 in the Brookdale Senior Living Center. Lillian was born on August 15, 1927 in South Bend to John and Mary (Gyori) Koczan.. She was a member of St. Pius X Church, BK Club, the Women's Society of St. Pius X, Broken Arrow Bowman, and the Izaak Walton League. On February 7, 1948 in South Bend she married the former Steve Gruber who died on February 2, 2016. Lillian was also preceded in death by her parents, step-mother Martha, a brother John Koczan, sister Mary Koczan, and step-sister Margaret Ettl. Surviving are a son Stephen J. (Susan) Gruber, Jr. of Dowagiac, MI. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30am Tuesday, October 18, 2016 in St. Pius X Church. Burial will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Family and friends may from 4-7 Monday in the Zahoran Funeral Home, 1826 Kemble Avenue where a vigil service will be held at 4:00pm. There will also be an hour of visitation prior to services in the church. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Pius X Church or the Christ's Child Society.
