Darlene L. Heslin, 81, of South Bend, Indiana passed away on Sunday, March 7, 2021 in Healthwin Specialized Care Facility. She was born on June 24, 1939, in South Bend, Indiana, to the late Claude and Stella (Lupa) Crowder. On June 29, 1957, in St. Hedwig Catholic Church, as Darlene L. Crowder, she married John Heslin, Jr., who preceded her in death on May 11, 1975.Darlene is survived by two daughters, Sherry (Ron) Wilcoxson of South Bend, Indiana, and Jill Mitchell of Ann Arbor, Michigan; two sons, John (Claudia) Heslin of Castle Pines, Colorado, and Greg (Jennifer) Heslin of Springfield, Missouri; grandchildren; Daniel (Mandy) Heslin, Anna (Gabe) Douglass, Elyse (Eric) Schelin, Lexi (Ian) Simpson, Trina Whitfield, Daris Whitfield, Brynn Whitfield, Zacharey Mitchell, Olivia Mitchell, Mariah Mitchell, Zoe Mitchell, John Heslin, Amanda Heslin and Jessica Heslin. Darlene was blessed with 8 great-grandchildren who lovingly called her Gigi. She is also survived by her sister, Rebecca Megyese of South Bend, Indiana. Darlene attended St. Joseph’s High School, where she served as senior class president. She and her husband John married shortly after her high school graduation. They began their married life together living on various Air Force bases during John’s military service. Darlene and John returned to South Bend after his service and began raising their family. Darlene liked to travel and had an opportunity to live in Palos Verdes, California and Ann Arbor, Michigan, prior to returning to South Bend, Indiana. Some of her fondest memories were of the trips to Europe that she took with her husband. Darlene retired from St. Joseph Regional Medical Center, where she was employed as a secretary for twenty-five years. She was a member of Corpus Christi Parish and the Altar & Rosary Society at the church. She was also an associate member of the Daughters of Divine Charity at Corpus Christi Church. Private funeral services will be held at a later date, with interment in St. Thomas Catholic Cemetery, Ann Arbor, Michigan.
